I really liked how characters are detailed even in the first few chapters. All family members make their presence clear... And I LIKE how cute our Aelira is! She is just so adorable. I believe she is gonna be a strong hero.

Kedik: You can know me as kedik, someone who's always been fascinated by anime, movies, TV series, and games. Beyond that, I’m an engineering student from Turkey, counting down the days to graduation.

About The Novel & Its Promise

WNF Codex: When the idea for this novel first appeared, where were you in life at the time?

Kedik: Many years ago, when I was bored in the classroom, the first step toward Aelira was taken. I was just a student who had recently started high school.

WNF Codex: What was the original spark for the story?

Kedik: Being unsatisfied with some of the series I watched. They always made me think, “How would I do it?” And in the end, I decided to create my own—in my mind, at my desk.

WNF Codex: Early on, what felt coolest or most exciting about this novel to you?

Kedik: The fights. It may come as a surprise to most, but for Aelira, the story was built around them from the very beginning. Arc by arc, each battle expanded and completed the story.

WNF Codex: For someone discovering the novel for the first time, what kind of experience are you hoping they’ll have?

Kedik: I want readers to explore the world with Aelira. I hope they come to love and hate it as she does, to see its problems through her eyes, and to feel them as she feels them.

Characters, World, and Inspiration

WNF Codex: Where did the main characters come from?

Kedik: Aelira wasn’t originally meant to be the main character. The first MC existed in the past and was meant to be her reincarnation. But as the story evolved, Aelira naturally took center stage. Where the first MC came from… I don’t really know.

WNF Codex: Did any character surprise you as you wrote them?

Kedik: I think Sylas reminds me of someone I knew in the past, and that’s why I keep expanding his background story, which surprises me every time.

WNF Codex: What’s something special about the setting or world that readers might not immediately notice?

Kedik: It’s a hard question for me. Did you know that praying to Elyndra for the sake of money or personal gain is an absolute taboo? There are two gods: one of life and death, and another of balance. You cannot ask one for what belongs to the other.

WNF Codex: Did your characters or world ever push the story in an unexpected direction?

Kedik: The MC changed from the original story. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination.

Shaping the Story Over Time

WNF Codex: How did you move from the initial idea to writing the first chapters?

Kedik: My approach evolved—and is still evolving—throughout the writing process. As I continued writing, I developed my skills and understanding, seeing the story differently—not only in the first chapter, but as a whole.

WNF Codex: Did the novel change meaningfully from its original concept to what readers see now?

Kedik: Mentioning the original concept takes us back years once again. To keep it short, I’ll tell you what didn’t change: the empire and the way it ruled.

WNF Codex: What parts of the story came most naturally to you, and which parts fought you the hardest?

Kedik: Pacing and tone were the hardest parts. Since the story starts from Aelira’s birth, keeping the pacing right was difficult, and I had to rewrite it several times. As for tone, the idea was always that it should grow along with Aelira. The rest was a fight against the endless jungle.

WNF Codex: Were there any characters, arcs, or ideas that almost made it into the story but didn’t?

Kedik: For the sake of pacing, I had to set aside several ideas. No characters were left behind—at least for now.

Writing in Public & Serialization

WNF Codex: How has writing in serialized form influenced your choices for this novel?

Kedik: Splitting into chapters that I had already written wasn’t the best experience I had.

WNF Codex: What surprised you most once readers started reacting to the story?

Kedik: One person didn’t like the fights, thinking they were padded. For a story that originated from its fights, that surprised me. Another reader said my style feels like a blend of Tolkien and Turkish literature.

WNF Codex: Was there a chapter or arc that felt like a turning point for you as a writer?

Kedik: The place where Lysric and Aelira fight is where I think I truly leveled up.

WNF Codex: Are there themes, details, or ideas introduced early that only pay off much later?

Kedik: Aelira is a very long story, and we’re just about to reach the halfway point of Volume 3—so yes.

WNF Codex: Which character changed the most from your earliest conception to their current form?

Kedik: Celdric was originally meant to be more evil and cunning, yet he became far more approachable. Lucien is another example: overconfidence and pride were replaced by anxiety and fear.

WNF Codex: If you were rereading the story today as a reader, what would you notice differently than when you first wrote it?

Kedik: Tighter pacing would likely surprise me. I’d also notice how the Kirsk section in Volume 1 changed, and I probably wouldn’t like it.

Human Moments & Behind-the-Scenes

WNF Codex: Is there a funny, strange, or very human anecdote from writing this novel that you’ve never really shared?

Kedik: After hearing several names tied to light on the same day, I ended up adding something connected to it.

WNF Codex: Was anyone instrumental in helping you build or sustain this story?

Kedik: My sister shared her opinions about the story with me, and I really appreciate that.

WNF Codex: Did real-life events ever influence the tone or direction of the story in ways readers might not realize?

Kedik: Did I realize it myself in the first place?

Sustainability & Reflection

WNF Codex: How do you approach this novel in practical terms?

Kedik: This is something very dear to me. For my past self, and for the one writing it now, if possible I want to achieve something meaningful.

WNF Codex: What has been harder than you expected about sustaining this story over time?

Kedik: Everything was harder than I expected, but listening to music and reading other authors’ stories helped.

WNF Codex: Looking back, what decision are you most proud of — not the outcome, but a choice you made along the way?

Kedik: Adding more interactions between Sylas and Zaek.

WNF Codex: If a new reader were about to start this novel, what would you quietly hope they notice or appreciate?

Kedik: I hope they can appreciate the passion I poured into it.

WNF Codex: Is there anything about this novel — its lore, its creation, or where it’s headed — that you’ve never really had a place to talk about, but would like to share here?

Kedik: I’ll talk about my future plans here. It’s still a bit early, but Volume 5 will mark the finale of Season 1. The next season will take the story in a different tonal direction. I hope everyone gets excited for what’s coming!
